JOB DESCRIPTION: Dual Position of Radiology Technologist/Medical Assistant

JOB SUMMARY: To provide compassionate and excellent patient care by performing courteous, efficient and accurate services. A dual position to perform radiologic procedures as well as medical assistant duties. In these roles you will accompany patients and their secondary guests through the entire experience to ensure an excellent clinical experience, reduce treatment times and maximize the patient experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Radiology Technologist:

  1. Ensure that the radiology room is clean and properly maintained with medical and radiology supplies.
  2. Ensure equipment is in working order.
  3. Reports equipment malfunctions to the Department Head.
  4. Assist and prepare patients for radiologic procedures.
  5. Educate patients about the tests being performed.
  6. Uses a variety of radiation protection and shielding materials.
  7. Accountable for proficient knowledge of x-ray procedures and protocols.
  8. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform x-ray testing including bodymechanics and patient movement.
  9. Knowledge of radiology equipment and safety hazards common to radiology.
  10. Clean surface areas after patient use.
  11. Ensure all radiographs achieve a radiographic interpretation by clarifying discrepancies.
  12. Responsible for producing and transmitting digital copies of x-rays.
  13. Accountable for up-to-date on annual radiation protection in-service with documentation.

Medical Assistant:

  1. Ensure examination and treatment rooms are clean and properly maintained with medical supplies.
  2. Room patients promptly following registration.
  3. Prepare patients for examination and treatment.
  4. Responsible for documenting chief complaint, medical condition, temperature, pulse, B/PO2, weight, height, pain level; last menses; allergic reactions to medications, list of current medications, social history, family history of disease, immunizations up to date, and designated pharmacy.
  5. Consult provider with history. Responsible for documenting chief complaints and vitals into EMR prior to provider’s assessment.
  6. Perform duties as directed by the provider.
  7. Prep patients for minor surgeries and assist the provider.
  8. Apply orthopedic splints and wound dressings.
  9. Perform all point of care tests ordered by the provider including; strep, influenza,COVID-19, Mononucleosis and RSV swabs and urinalysis testing.
  10. Perform subcutaneous, intradermal and intramuscular injections ordered by provider.
  11. Perform phlebotomy for collection of serum laboratory specimens.
  12. Perform nebulizer treatments and EKGs ordered by provider.
  1. Dispense and document pre-packaged medications and other treatment modalities.
  2. Perform non-DOT and DOT drug collections according to policy and procedures.
  3. Perform DOT examinations on vision, color, hearing, and urine according to regulations.
  4. Obtained required information for School and Sport Examinations under ISHA and IESA.
  5. Perform TB test (one step and/or two steps) for employers/employees
  6. Schedule and coordinate necessary records for patients.
  7. Instruct and educate patients before discharge if applicable.
  8. Maintain confidentiality under HIPAA within the clinic area and with patient/staffconversations behind closed doors.
  9. Maintain clean, professional working/treatment areas.
  10. Clean and sterilize reusable instruments in the sterilizer. Understand the importance ofhow to do the cleaning process under manufacturer and (RHC) guidelines.
  11. Be familiar with Rural Health Care (RHC) protocols. Complete annual reviews assignedby leadership.
  12. Refer to Rural Health Care (RHC) manuals for correct policies and procedures.
  13. Supplies with expiration dates must be coded upon shipping arrival.
  14. Medications with expiration dates must be coded upon shipping arrival.
  15. Multi-dose vials medications must have been labeled with an open date and expirationdate at 28 days.
  16. Log twice daily temperatures of the refrigerator.
  17. Log daily check of AED.
  18. Log daily and weekly maintenance of UltraClave Sterilizer.
  19. Log monthly maintenance of UltraClave Sterilizer.
  20. Log bimonthly checks on oxygen tanks.
  21. Check disposal biohazard needle collection bins in each room.
  22. Upon closing, check each exam room for cleanliness, adequate supplies and trashremoval.
  23. Ensure all Maxi-Wipe Containers are marked “5 Minute Wait Time.”
  24. Every Monday review supplies and medications needed for the clinic and enter into theClinic’s Supply Inventory List in Google Sheets.
  25. Every Monday review orthopedic supplies and enter into the Clinic’s Orthopedic InventoryList in Google Sheets.
  26. Every Monday review Dispensing Rx supplies and enter into the Clinic’s Dispensing RxList in Google Sheets.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Other requirements/information: Previous experience as a medical office assistant or CNA or equivalent, previous experience with an electronic health record and phlebotomy. Knowledge of urgent care medical specialty. Knowledge of medical terminology. Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette.

Licensure/Certifications: Current certification as a radiology technician with The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers)

  1. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with providers, staff, patients and the communities.
  2. Proficient knowledge of radiologic procedures and protocols.
  3. Proficient knowledge of the medical practice environment and care to patients.
  4. Ability to pay close attention to details in documentation in EMR and verbal communication withpatients and providers.
  5. Ability to work and accommodate a fast-paced work environment maintaining excellent customerservice and interactions.
  6. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  7. Ability to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA and of sensitive information.
  8. May be at risk for blood and/or body fluid exposure.
